Tortoise Gets The Observer, BBC Radio Rejection and TV for 2025
Caroline Frost and Charlotte Tobitt join Matt Deegan
We’ve talked quite a bit about the takeover of The Observer by podcast outfit Tortoise Media on the show - and they’ve seemingly done it, announcing Lucy Rock as the print editor with a spring re-launch. Press Gazette UK Editor of Press Gazette talks to us about what’s been going on.
Radio Times columnist and podcast presenter Caroline Frost give us the low down on the latest Gregg Wallace-related news, plus her tips for the TV shows to watch out for in 2025.
All of that plus the BBC’s had its hopes of an Ofcom approval to put its new spin-off stations onto DAB Digital Radio somewhat dashed as the regulator’s decided to spend six month doing an investigation. Is this the final nail in the coffin for Radio 2 Extra - or do the Beeb just need to play the long game?
Thank you to all of you for listening (and watching!) The Media Club this year. We love putting the show together each week, but it’s quite an endeavour. Thanks to Matt Hill for producing most of it (alongside his Rethink Audio colleagues Ollie Peart and Louise Hill) and our colleagues at Podcast Discovery Josh Divney and Kristen Kenyon for doing the video edit and for making all the social clips too. We record on a Thursday afternoon and have the audio up by midnight and then the video usually by noon Friday so it’s always a quick turnaround by the team. I’m really thankful for the work they do. We’re also generously supported by our guests who give their time to be on the show, an even bigger pain now we drag them out to the sofa! We’re all lucky they provide such great insight.
We hope that you have a great Christmas and New Year, we’ll be back in 2025 for more media fun!
Matt D.
